Bob L's Central America Trip Photos

Home through Mexico

Start of Trip

Loaded up and ready to go. It was 24 degrees out when I left. It did not get above freezing until late in the second day.

In Mexico

These vultures were sitting in the tree waiting for me to die. There were lots of vultures in Mexico. I got my revenge though, I hit one with my helmet.

Passing the Tropic of Cancer yet again.

Las Pozas - The Pools

A bizarre collection of concrete structures and buildings built by Sir Edward James ( I wonder if he was any relation to Eddie James of Team Strange?). Any way, People who knew him and people like Picasso said the others were posers, but Mr. James was the real thing. Kinda gives you an idea how strange it was.

Anyway, he had lived here and had a huge collection of Orchids, but they died during a cold spell. He decided that that would never happen again so he built Orchids out of concrete. He also built stairs that went no-where and all kinds of other structures that made no sense to a normal mind. They were once painted bright colors, but the jungle has pretty much taken over. There are still people living in the strange little buildings, I assume as caretakers.

No, nothing is missing, this is the way it was built.

Nice waterfall and pools you can swim in, but even here there was strange architecture.

Yep, still lived in.

This orchid will never die.

Ummm

Another permananent Orchid

Quetatera

An ancient aquaduct

Yet another festival. There are always festivals in Mexico, especially around Christmas. Here they are throwing FRUIT off the truck to the kids. They attach bananas, oranges, bags of nuts etc. to balloons and throw them at, I mean to people.

Oaxaca

A Cathedral. There are tons of these in Mexico. Every little town has at least one, and most have a number of them. All are beautifully decorated.

El Tule, a big tree. Supposedly the biggest Biomass in the world.

The Monte Alban Ruins. Good ruins. I was approached by an english speaking guide who wanted $20 to give me a tour. My hotels cost less than $15 so I said it was too expensive. He got mad at me and told me off in Spanish.

Palenque Ruins

Great Jungle Setting, Monkeys in the trees, birds, etc. A few too many tourists, but nice anyway.
