2018-07-02 - 104'F in the shade

Yes, my thermometer went as high as 104'F in the shade, while moving. Of course, the shade was from two trucks. I took a roundabout way to Montreal, and ended up choosing routes that had a lot of construction. Not what I wanted in the heat. Almost the whole way up it was in the lower 90's, with some jumps as high as 104'F. I was really glad that the A/C worked at the hotel, and that I had not planned on dealing with getting the bike inspected today.

I chose the hotel I did because it was near the airport, an important thing with all the construction around Montreal, and the proximity to restaurants. Next time, remind me to look up what restaurants are there. The hotel was nice, but the neighborhood where the restaurants were was not. Nor were the restaurants. It was convenient for the work I had to do though. It all worked out, as I had a lot of research to do, and did not really want to go out anyway. There was a bar, so life was good.

2018-07-?? - FACEBOOK - Etc

I realized that I have been posting some things to Facebook but I have friends that do not have facebook. Rather than try to get them to be assimilated into the collective, I will just post some of the posts here. If they choose to look, then the posts are here for them.

They may not be absolutely current, but at least they will be permanent, which is a good thing, I think.

2018-07-11 - KICKBALL

Watching Croatia vs England play kickball. Like watching a chess match. But I get a free shot for every point. I wish this was basketball.

2018-07-11 - ONE STEP at a TIME

A friend gave me a bell to put on the bike to keep away the road gremlins. I tried to get a pic with the bell mounted on the bike and scenery in the background, but that did not really work out, so I took this pic instead.

The bell is supposed to keep the bike and rider safe from road Gremlins. Doubly effective if a gift, which it is. Best if mounted close to the road. I mounted it on my brake padal. I think it scraped the ground on a few right hand curves. I love the Alps.

I tried to get a picture of it mounted on the bike with scenery in the background but it just didn’t work out. This looks good though.

I have lots of pics and videos. None capture the beauty of the area or the great roads but I will get them posted at some point. What I need is a day or two of rain sitting in a cheap motel to figure out how to easily post from on the road. Unfortunately the weather has been perfect 8^)

2018-07-08 - Germans know how to hike.

Took a nice hike to a waterfall. Must have taken the wrong route because I hiked for almost an hour and a half before I found a Cafe with beer.

2018-07-13 - But the Swiss do it Better.

Swiss hiking was even better. Chairlift to the top, hike only across or down, never uphill, as that would be uncivilized. Cafe every 20 minutes of hiking.

2018-07-15 - Sometimes you have to substitute a tiny coffee for a large beer.

Sometimes you have to drive

2018-07-17 - I love the way the Swiss hike.

I love the way the Swiss hike. Well OK, these are three Americans but you know what I mean. Stories to follow about a special hike today. Zermatt, Switzerland

Just another day in Paradise

Beer, Schnapps, what else does one need in the middle of a hike. Oh, yes, Apple Struddel

2018-07-18 - Zermatt, Glacier Paradise

I lied in the last post, that was not paradise, THIS is paradise. Glacier Paradise. At least that is what they call it.

GASP. 13,000 Feet. Walking uphill. Both ways.

2018-07-18 - Zermatt, Switzerland Matterhorn Glacier

Ahhhhh, 10,000 feet. Much better now. Laying out in the sun, drinking a beer listening to Island songs. How could it get better. No beach but at least it's not too hot.
