French Car Museum

Link to PHOTO ALBUM: - A LOT of photos here.

Nothing like seeing a man take a brass hammer to one of rarest Bugattis on the planet. A car that I would not be surprised if it were worth millions.

This is the part he was banging on.

While walking around with my head spinning from all the cars to look at, I see this man rolling a wheel down the aisle. THAT could be interesting. He was replacing the wheel on what the audio guide says is one of the most rare Bugatti's in the world. He spins on the large nut, then tightens it by hitting it with a large brass hammer. The tool was probably a rare vintage item as well.

This was the car

This week it is all about cars. I stopped at the Zeppelin museum, and there were some amazing cars there along with all the Dirigible stuff.

Then this morning I went to the Cite de l'Automobile, in Mulhouse, France https://www.citedelautomobile.com/en/home

This was a museum I did not know about when I was in this area a month ago. Has it really been that long? A friend said I should have stopped there. I had a plan yesterday that included this museum as well as others. Well, the plans got changed, but I decided to keep this in the plans. I almost dropped it, as it sounded good, but I will be going to the Mercedes-Benz and Porsche Museums tomorrow, so.....

I am very glad I did not miss it. Walking in, there were a few cars scattered about, some old, some very old, but so far nothing crazy. Then the first room had some pretty cool stuff and a little about the folks that started the collection along with some great cars.

Then I entered THIS room. This is just one of the rooms. It goes on forever. There are cars starting in the 1800's and going forward. about the greatest collection I have yet seen. Mostly French, Italian and German, but there were others. Not much for American Muscles Cars though.

OK, Harley Guys, what is wrong with this picture?

Most of these cars are in running condition. Many are one of a kind, or the only surviving example. A real car person would have to spend days in here. There is an audio guide in your language that describes many of the most interesting cars, and most of the signage has English as well.

This was originally designed to transport Cannon. Without the bodywork I am assuming

Not that this Buggati is a 1936. 1936 !!!!!!

I think they made this Buggati Veyron hard to photograph on purpose.

Both of these cars are well over 6m feet tall. So many of the old luxury vehicles were like large trucks. Or houses.

This big Yellow Renaut is a good bit more than 6 feet tall. It is amazing how big some of these old cars were.

There was even a Ride. They strap you in a car, and spin it around as if you were to roll the car, well sort of. I think it was to demonstrate safety, but I did not try it. See the video link at the end of this post.

You can get rides in classic cars on a small track, including old american muscle cars.

I really cannot begin to describe this amazing museum, so I will let the few pics I took describe it for me. Go to the Photo Album link at the top of this post.

I am now just putting in links to videos, as everything I tried seems to load part of the video if it is embedded in the page. I am all about low band width, so that is unacceptable. Click on the link if you want to see videos. Or just go to my photo album, where they are usually at the end.

Link to VIDEO OF A CAR Rolling over - This is a ride where you get strapped into a car and they rotate it about the axis. Not quite like rolling a car over, but close enough. VIDEO LINK
