Getting recommendations on places to go and things to do is always a crap shoot. The biggest problem with it is the WHY. Everyone has a different idea of what is worth doing. For example, someone may say "Go to this town, it is awesome." Then when you get there you find it is nothing but seedy bars and strip clubs. It turns out that the person giving you the advice happens to LIKE seedy bars and strip clubs. YOU may even like these places, just not when you are travelling with your wife. So when asking for, or being given advice, ALWAYS ask WHY.

The only time this is not important is if you know the person giving the advice likes the same things as you, and gives you a little clue as to what is there. I found out pretty quickly that SAN has similar tastes in places, although not always for the same reasons. For example, she really likes Art Nuveau buildings for all the reasons that fans of that kind of architecture like them. I just think they look interesting. Enjoying the same things for different reasons.

As I posted before, SAN is a drive-by tourist for many things. Often, the places she picked out were more about the location and the roads nearby, and less about the actual attraction. My kinda' ride.

Still, when SAN finds a place where she does not drive by, and actually pays to enter and look around, I take notice.

I had a few options as to what route I would take leaving Oslo, and what I would see. I had the itinerary SAN followed prior to our meeting up, and I chose to follow a portion of it. She had written a Blog post on the route so I knew what to expect, more or less.

Egeskov Castle is an interesting place. The family that owns it still lives in the castle. The family has it's private areas, and after the castle closes, they occupy the rooms where the tourists cleared out of. They hold all kinds of events here, including classic car shows and crazy athletic challenges.

This sign says it all. Whatever your pleasure. There IS a castle, with various interesting displays inside and pretty grounds outside. BUT, for me, the other displays are what I like. Bikes, Cars, Planes, bicyles, mopeds, farm implements, tools, household stuff, a very eclectic display. I liked it.

Here is the castle

And the bathrooms

When the first thing you see is a military jet and motorcycles on the roof, you know you are in the right place

They hang the motorcycles from the ceiling so you can get close and get a GOOD look at them.

There tons of bikes here, and I only took a relative few pics, but there were quite a few that I had never seen before. For exaple, this FN bike. FN makes military weapons, but aparently made motorcycles too. It's kinda' like how BMW makes cars as well as motorcycles. Who knew.

They even had storage areas you could wander through. Some of these are destined for display, some not.

I had to travel to Europe to see one of these Harleys

Are you a Woman? Are you "MAD" enough to ride a motorcycle?

During World War II many vehicles in Europe were converted to run on wood using a Wood Gas Producer. This is one example, there is another in my photo album

It's not a Speedwagon, but it is an REO

A PINK Electric Car from 1921, New Jersey. Pink? Really? Well, it was marketed to women.

I know someone that would love that plate.

A 1929 Chevrolet modified with a steam genereator to delouse soldiers uniforms during the Spanish Civil War. Where else would you see one of these?

There were a number of vehicles called the Wanderer. This 1913 motorcycle seemed rather apropriate for my current trip. The Wanderer was a bicycle company that branched off into cars and motorcycles.

Oh, yeah, there is a castle here. It looks pretty darned good from the outside, and the grounds are full of different kinds of gardens for walking around. The castle, without all the displays, would be a pretty good stop, but with everything else, it was awesome.

Lots of animal heads, and skins and knives and swords.

Every Nobleman needs a dueling weapon. These are paintball guns, as actually killing your opponent is rather frowned upon these days.

But then again, if you had pink feathers on your armor, you might need a duelling weapon. This was built in the 1999 for the current count.
