Yesterday around noon I got off the ferry in Germany from Denmark.
My last Scandinavian Ferry.

My GPS said 5:15 hours to Prague. I rode all kinds of back roads towards Prague and found a very old wooden draw bridge:
From 1236. That was a long time ago.

I also found a 15 mile long very rough cobble stone road through the woods. About in the middle of it, there were train tracks. And a hotel!!!
I ended the yesterday with my GPS saying I was 5 hours from Prague. I love back roads.
Today I have been riding since 9 am. It is now 2 pm and I am 4:15 hours from Prague.
Entering Poland was a jolt. In Germany I had been riding beautiful roads through forests and parks and farms. Plenty of cute little towns.
Then I crossed the border. Holy crap. I entered a seriously ugly Soviet era city. I don't like cities much and they all look like crap holes when I first enter them. I do warm up to most eventually, often really liking them. But I don't think all the vodka in Poland would have warmed me up to this one. It is likely that the rest of the city that I didn't see looked better. I hope so.
Then I found the back roads. They were rough and every little town they went through was ugly. BUT as I got farther south the towns and roads got better and better. It was a very enjoyable ride.
I went to Poland to get Pierogi, one of my favorite Polish foods. I could not find an open restaurant for lunch so had to settle:
Settling.

And one more ferry. This one was man powered. Very simple, the large wire cable could go through three pulleys. One in the middle and one on each end. To go across the river, the pilot would take the cable out of the rear pulley and the hull of the boat would be pushed by the water like a sail of a sailboat is pushed by the wind. The price was 1 Zloty. That would be about $0.23 Euro or $0.27 US. I only had Euro. I gave him a two EU coin. He gave me one back. Conversion fees I suppose. It was exciting getting on and off.
And one Ferry that was not running, even though it's sign said it was. Kinda screwed my plans up, such as they were.
And every town had old buildings, and churches and things. Lots of sculpture parks, and cobble stones in the center of small towns. To slow you down I suppose. It works.
I ended the day fairly close to the Czechia Border. My GPS said I have 4:15 hours to go!!! It's like time is standing still.
Then I tried to get a place to stay. THAT is another post all together.
