The Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum is just incredible. I have been trying to take fewer photos, especially of vehicles, or castles or other things I have too many photos of, but THIS place, well, I couldn't help myself.

From their website: Sammy Miller is a motorcycling legend, 11 times British Champion, winner of over 1400 events and still winning competitions more than 50 years after his first victory. The Museum houses one of the finest collections of fully restored motorcycles in the world, including factory racers and exotic prototypes, with the collection constantly evolving as new bikes are acquired. This is a living museum with almost every motorcycle in the museum in full running order. Sammy regularly demonstrates the bikes at race circuits in the UK and Europe and at Museum, event days.

There were so many brands that I had never seen, and so many unique designs, I could have spent half a day there. Oh, Wait, I DID. Here is just a tiny sample. Even my Smugmug or Photos page only has a sample.

I suppose it is OK for adults then?

The front pulley can get wider or narrower to change the gear ratio of the drive. The rear wheel has to be moved forward and back, using that chain you see, to compensate for change. There is another model there with bevel gears to change the rear wheel position.

A Four Cylinder 50 CC bike. 1.13 shots of whiskey. That's 3 cubic inches. With FOUR cylinders. That means 12.5 CC per CYLINDER. 0.42 Fluid ounces, less than a third of a shot of whiskey per cylinder. The cylinder bore is 25.3 mm = Less than an inch in diameter.

Of course, we cannot forget the ladies, here is a ladies model. Very Rare.

A 1898 model I don't know if this one is in running condition, but considering that almost everything in the museum can run, I would not be surprised.

So, of course there has to be ANOTHER 1898 motorcycle. This one looks fantastic.

This head looks weird enough, BUT, look at the next pic.

That red thing is the cam, which rotates, moving the blue rocker arms, with push the valves in and out.

The rust colored thing under the cable on the head is the rocker arm.

This is a rather unique front suspension design, from FN, who was also a firearms manuracturer.

We saw a few of these in the National Motorcycle Museum, but this one is, of course, Unique.

Not an engine type you see very often. Produced by Wooler, it is a Flat 4 arrangement.

The four horizontal rods are the connecting rods, they are connected to the four pistons and to that reciprocating T shaped piece. The vertical connecting rod goes up and down as the Flywheel below rotates. This makes the T shaped piece rock back and forth, making the pistons go in and out. Or more accurately, the firing of the cylinders makes the pistons move which makes the flywheel rotate. Very ingenuous. I wonder how well it worked in practice.

It wouldn't be a British Motorcycle Museum without a reference to Lawrence of Arabia.

Of course, a Norton Room. I need a Norton Room.

A 1970 Triumph 350, never produced for sale. Apparently this virtually bankrupted the parent company BSA. Of course, this was not the only bad decision BSA made.
