This is for one of my regular readers. You know who you are.
I rode down a dead end road to see a town. Well, actually, to ride the road that goes to that town. The road goes through some interesting areas, and ends at the highest permanently settled town in Switzerland called Juf. It is 2,126 meters high, just under 7,000 feet. And yes, even here I had LTE all the way up on my phone.
On the way out I saw a sign for Valle di Lei. I didn’t know what it was, but the road went up and was curvy, so up I went. I got to what looked like an entrance to a large bunker, with a stop light that turned green just as I got there. I did not have time to read the signs to see if maybe I was not supposed to continue on. It was a weird tunnel, looking like I was going to end up in a nuclear survival shelter or something.
Coming out the other end, there were signs for parking, so it was OK to be there. There was also a large dam. They had a selection of water wheels showing the advancement through the years. Or at least that is what I am assuming they were there for.
One was a Pelton Wheel. I can’t remember if my reader has a Pelton Wheel or a similar micro-hydro, but this is close enough.
